Rav Shnayor Burton recently released his new sefer on Eretz Yisrael called HaAretz Asher Areka (lit: The Land Which I Will Show You).
Rabbi Burton recorded a video for Operation Home Again sharing what inspired him to learn the sugya of Eretz Yisrael and his impetus for compiling his years of learning the subject into a sefer.
In this sefer's debut, Rabbi Burton writes:
"The product of years of study, lecturing and writing, this 208-page sefer presents my conclusions about the mitzvah to live in Eretz Yisrael. The sefer is not merely a collection of sources and opinions, but an in-depth, original and methodical treatment of this topic that touches on the fundamentals of the Torah and draws on all of Torah literature. Along the way, I discuss the following questions and more:
What constitutes a mitzvah?
Must we refrain from action as we await Mashiach?
Why did a large community remain in Bavel during the period of Bayis Sheni?
Are there situations in which a person should choose to live in exile?
Why is Eretz Yisrael so central to the Torah?
Be"H in the coming weeks, we will be featuring a regular column in this newsletter with excerpts translated from the sefer.
